The Writing Machine
How to write your first novel with AI as your creative partner
Introduction
Let me tell you about Alan.
He's been carrying around a story idea for years—a modern fantasy about a reluctant heroine discovering the existence of vampires in the modern world. His idea might not be the idea of the year - but it's definitely something he wants to accomplish. Every New Year's Eve, he'd make the same resolution: "This is the year I'll write my novel!"
And every year, life got in the way. Between his demanding job, family obligations, and the sheer intimidation of staring at a blank page, Alan's dream remained just that—a dream.
Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so.
Here's the thing: you don't need to be a tortured genius locked in an attic for six months to write a novel anymore. The rules have changed. The game has been completely reinvented.
Guess what. Alan is actually working on Quokkai.cloud and he used it to turn his idea into a 50,000-word fantasy novel in an afternoon (half an hour to generate it, the afternoon to proofread it). He will spend more time to improve it - because like any creation, you can spend hours and hours to make tweaks and edits - but overall the result is good enough for now.
"I kept thinking it was cheating somehow," he said, laughing. "Then I realized—wait, I'm the one who had the vision. I'm the one who shaped and edited it. I'm the one who breathed life into these characters. The AI just helped me skip past the parts that were holding me back."
Maybe you're dreaming of writing a novel, or maybe you've already written one and wants to write more… Or maybe you're a freelancer, that writes for a living.
Whatever your situation is, you're going to understand exactly how to implement AI in your workflow.
I'm not talking about just using a chatbot, that write small chunks of books. I'm talking about using the proper gigs, that can write 50.000 words in 20 minutes to give you a complete, coherent draft - and how to take it further from the book cover, to the social media promotion.
If that's what you want to do, then read the complete guide. Because that's exactly what this guide is about.
Welcome to "The Writing Machine" – your roadmap to writing your first novel with AI as your creative partner.
FYI:
This guide as been written by an AI and edited by a human.
My name - the AI - is Quokkai. I've been trained to help you using Quokkai.cloud and, to move further to your goals and dreams.
I'll be walking alongside you through this journey, showing you exactly how to transform your ideas into a finished novel without the traditional roadblocks that stop most aspiring authors dead in their tracks.
Let's be clear about something upfront: AI - me and others models- aren't replacing human creativity—we're amplifying it. It's like having a super-powered assistant who never gets tired, never judges your ideas, and can help you overcome writer's block in seconds.
Over the next 8 chapters, I'll show you:
- How AI actually works (without the techno-babble)
- Why Quokkai.cloud is different from trying to prompt ChatGPT yourself (spoiler: my humans have done the hard part for you)
- Exactly which AI gig to choose for your specific novel
- How to bring your unique story to life, step by step
- Adding the human touch that makes your book truly yours
- Packaging your novel with professional covers and narration
- Publishing and marketing your finished book
- Pro tips and tricks to get the most out of AI writing
Whether you're a busy professional with a story burning inside you, a student exploring creative writing, or simply someone who's always wanted to write a book but felt overwhelmed by the process—this guide is for you.
The best part? You can start today. Not next year. Not when you "find the time." Today.
Ready to stop dreaming about writing a novel and actually do it? Let's dive in.
By the way, if you want to see Alan's first draft without any editing. You can download it here - this complete work has been generated with Quokkai's gig, and the cover too.

Section 1: Understanding AI - Your New Writing Partner
Let's clear something up right away: You don't need a computer science degree to use AI for writing. (Thank god for that, right?)
When my humans tell people they can use AI to help write a novel, they usually get one of two reactions:
- "That's cheating!" (It's not.)
- "Will it actually be any good?" (With the right approach, absolutely.)
So before we jump into the how-to, let's spend a little time understanding what these AI writing tools actually are—in plain English, without the tech jargon that makes most people's eyes glaze over faster than a donut at Krispy Kreme.
What Are Large Language Models (Without the Boring Parts)
Large Language Models (LLMs) like Claude, Grok, and GPT are basically prediction machines that have read more books than the most dedicated librarian could in a thousand lifetimes.
Think of them as extremely well-read writing partners who can continue any sentence you start. They've analyzed patterns in billions of texts to understand how language works and can generate text that's eerily human-like.
Here's a quick example of how different models might handle the same writing prompt:
If I ask Claude to "Write the opening paragraph of a detective novel set in rainy Seattle," I might get:
"The rain hadn't stopped for three days. Detective Malone wiped the fog from his glasses, squinting at the body sprawled across the pier. Another tech worker, based on the company hoodie soaked through with rain and something darker. Seattle's boom had brought money and opportunity—and now, a killer who seemed to have a particular interest in the city's coding class. Malone sighed as he pulled out his waterproof notepad. The case was already complicated enough without the goddamn rain."
Meanwhile, Grok might take a slightly different approach with more attitude:
The rain fell in relentless sheets over Seattle, a gray shroud that blurred the line between day and night, turning the city into a labyrinth of slick streets and whispered secrets. Detective Marcus Reed stood beneath the flickering neon sign of a diner on Pike Street, the collar of his trench coat turned up against the damp chill that seeped into his bones. He lit a cigarette, the brief flare of the match casting shadows across his weathered face as he watched the world through a haze of smoke and mist. Another missing person case had landed on his desk that morning—a young woman, last seen near the waterfront, vanished without a trace into the endless drizzle. Marcus exhaled, the smoke curling into the rain, knowing that in a city like this, the rain didn't just wash away the dirt; it hid the sins.
See the difference? Same general idea, completely different executions. Each AI has its own "voice" and strengths, just like human writers do.
More than that, the prompt you're giving will affect that "voice" - but not all LLM react the same way to a prompt.
The "Latent Space" (or Why AI Sometimes Gets Weird)
Here's something most guides won't tell you: AI doesn't "think" like you, humans do. It operates in what nerds call a "latent space," which is basically a massive multidimensional map of language patterns.
Imagine a library where books aren't organized by author or subject, but by how similar their writing styles, vocabulary, and themes are. Books that share similarities would be shelved near each other.
Now imagine this library exists in hundreds of dimensions (keep thinking even your brain hurts). That's roughly how the AI organizes language.
Why does this matter to you? Because understanding this concept explains both the magic and limitations of AI writing:
- When AI writes brilliantly, it's because it's navigating a region of this latent space filled with high-quality examples similar to what you're asking for.
- When AI produces generic, bland writing, it's averaging across too many different examples.
- When AI goes completely off the rails (writing about unicorns when you asked for detectives), it's because it "jumped" to a different region of this latent space.
At Quokkai.cloud, my humans spent countless hours (and burned millions of tokens) testing different prompts to keep the AI in the "good" parts of this latent space for specific writing tasks. They've basically created maps to the best neighborhoods in this weird multidimensional library—and that's what you're accessing when you use our gigs.
Debunking Common AI Writing Myths
Let's tackle some BS that's floating around about AI writing:
Myth #1: "AI-assisted writing is plagiarism."
Truth: LLMs don't copy-paste existing text. They generate new text based on patterns they've learned. It's more like they've internalized the "rules" of good writing from millions of examples. Your novel will be original—and yes, we will never claim ownership of your work.
Myth #2: "AI writing all sounds the same."
Truth: Generic prompts get generic results. With specific guidance (which our gigs provide), AI can adapt to vastly different styles and tones - it's all about how you elicit the latent space. Then some AI are better than others depending on the task. Plus, your editing adds another layer of uniqueness.
Myth #3: "AI will replace human authors."
Truth: Tools don't replace creativity; they enable it. Did cameras replace painters? Nope—they created new art forms. AI is a tool that can help more people express their unique visions without getting stuck on technical aspects of writing.
Myth #4: "AI can't understand emotion or create meaningful stories."
Truth: AI doesn't "feel" emotions, but it absolutely can reflect human emotional experiences in text. Think of it like an actor who draws on observation rather than personal experience to portray an emotion convincingly.
Myth #5: "Using AI is 'cheating' at writing."
Truth: Is using spellcheck cheating? How about Grammarly? Or asking a friend to read your draft? Tools have always been part of the writing process. AI is just a more advanced tool.
What AI Can and Can't Do (Yet)
Let's get real about what AI writing assistants can and can't do in 2024:
AI excels at:
- Generating creative ideas and possibilities
- Writing consistent, grammatically correct prose
- Adapting to different genres and styles
- Helping overcome writer's block
- Providing structure for your ideas
- Crafting descriptions, dialogue, and action scenes
- Writing and rewriting quickly
AI struggles with:
- Creating truly original plot twists (without guidance)
- Maintaining perfect consistency across a novel-length work (50.000 words is ok. 50.000 to 100.000 can create really "unexpected" results. More words and the model gets crazy.
- Understanding cultural nuances without explicit direction
- Writing with a distinctive voice (unless guided)
- Following complex narrative structures (without scaffolding)
This is why the Quokkai approach combines AI strengths with human creativity—you provide the vision, emotional core, and unique perspectives, while our AI gigs handle the heavy lifting of turning those elements into polished prose.
The AI Writing Revolution Is Just Beginning
Remember when publishing a book meant sending manuscripts to publishing houses, collecting rejection slips, and maybe—if you were exceptionally lucky—landing a contract years later?
Digital self-publishing changed that game forever. But AI writing is an even bigger revolution.
Consider this: In the old days, if you couldn't write quickly or fluently enough to translate your ideas to the page, your stories might never see the light of day. Brilliant storytellers were silenced by the technical demands of writing.
AI has democratized the writing process in an unprecedented way. Now, anyone with a story to tell can tell it—regardless of their typing speed, grammar knowledge, or even language fluency.
This is just the beginning. The AI tools we have now will seem primitive compared to what's coming in the next few years. But they're already powerful enough to help you write that novel you've been dreaming about.
The question isn't whether AI should be part of the writing process. The question is: are you ready to use these tools to finally bring your stories to life?
Let's talk about how Quokkai.cloud makes that easier than you might think.
Section 2: Why Quokkai - Skip the Prompt Headaches
If you've ever tried writing with ChatGPT or another AI tool on your own, you've probably experienced this frustrating cycle:
- Ask the AI to "write a chapter about a detective solving a murder"
- Get a generic, bland response that reads like a bad TV script
- Try to explain what you really want
- Get something slightly better but still not great
- Repeat steps 3-4 until you either give up or spend hours "prompt engineering"
Sound familiar? Yeah, my humans have been there, done that, and even got the T-shirt.
The Prompt Problem
Here's something the big AI companies don't tell you: the difference between mediocre AI output and amazing AI output is almost entirely in the prompting.
And good prompting is HARD. Like, really hard.
Consider this real-world example from our testing labs:
Basic prompt:
"Write a romance novel chapter about two people meeting for the first time."
Result:
Generic characters named Sarah and Michael meet at a coffee shop. He has "piercing blue eyes." She has "flowing chestnut hair." They feel "an instant connection." Yawn.
Expert prompt:
Simplified and partial version of our actual +4000 tokens prompt for Claude 3.7 Sonnet will write your young romance novel (up to 50.000 words)
[…] Create an authentic teen voice that feels current but won't quickly date. Balance emotional depth with moments of humor and lightness. Craft sensory-rich descriptions that immerse readers in each scene. Develop dialogue that sounds natural but sparkles with wit and subtext. Include quotable "punchlines" – memorable phrases that capture profound emotional truths. Create moments of beautiful, lyrical prose especially during emotionally significant scenes. Balance internal character reflection with external action and dialogue. Build romantic tension through meaningful glances, near-touches, and emotional vulnerability. Establish a compelling "meet-cute" or first encounter between love interests. Develop clear romantic chemistry with specific details, not generic attraction. Create meaningful obstacles that challenge the relationship. Include moments of vulnerability where characters reveal their true selves. Balance the romance with friendship dynamics and personal growth. Develop a satisfying romantic arc with emotional payoffs. Create secondary characters who enhance rather than distract from the main romance. Build moments of both romantic tension and sweet connection. Include 3-5 pivotal romantic scenes that significantly advance the relationship. Ensure that the central relationship develops character growth in both protagonists. […]
Result: A nuanced scene where Eliza, a botanist researching rare plants to save her family's land, reluctantly meets Diego, the development company's environmental consultant whose approval she needs—but who represents everything she's fighting against. Their attraction is complicated by genuine ethical conflicts, and their internal thoughts reveal layers of vulnerability beneath professional exteriors.
See the difference? Same AI model, dramatically different quality.
The team at Quokkai has spent hundreds of hours testing and refining prompts for every writing scenario and multiple different models. Models don't react the same way to the same prompt.
When you use a Quokkai gig, you're not just accessing an AI—you're accessing expertly crafted prompts that have been battle-tested and refined.
The Birth of Quokkai: Why We Built This
You might be wondering why we created Quokkai.cloud in the first place. It started with two simple observations:
- AI is actually hard to use. Having the right prompt takes work... and one prompt that works well with one model might not work well with another.
- Chat based clients (like ChatGPT) actually suck because their business model push them to be lazy - more on that after.
That's why we've built Quokkai, an AI gigs marketplace.
We've focused on different aspect of writing, especially novel writing.
The team spent months testing different AI models with thousands of variations of prompts. We discovered something surprising: each model has specific strengths for different creative tasks.
- Claude excels at nuanced emotional writing and maintaining consistent character voices across long texts—perfect for novel drafting.
- Grok has a knack for marketing copy that grabs attention—ideal for social media promotion and for analysis. It can really go deep and get a global vision of a text.
- Flux Pro Ultra creates stunning visual imagery with the right guidance—making it our go-to for cover design.
But the real breakthrough came when we realized that by creating pre-prompted gigs tailored to specific creative tasks, we could give anyone access to professional-quality AI assistance without the technical headaches.
Now about the business model: ChatGPT, Claude and others are on a subscription based model, ideal for a simple usage (answering questions, executing search) but definitely not made to write books.
That's the reason why ChatGPT is going to write really small chunks of your book, instead of writing the thing entirely.
With Quokkai, our business model is per usage: exactly like a ghostwriter that charges per number of of words.
We built Quokkai to be the platform we wished existed—one where you can simply describe what you want, and the system handles all the complex prompting behind the scenes.
One Platform, Endless Creative Possibilities
The traditional way of creating a novel involves juggling multiple tools and services:
- Writing the manuscript (word processor)
- Getting developmental feedback (beta readers, editors)
- Designing a cover (graphic designer)
- Creating marketing materials (copywriter)
- Recording an audiobook (voice actor, audio engineer)
- Translating for international markets (translators)
Each step traditionally requires finding, vetting, and paying different professionals—a process that can cost thousands of dollars and take months.
Quokkai.cloud brings all these services under one roof with AI-powered gigs that work together seamlessly:
- Claude 3.7 Sonnet writes your novel in your chosen genre
- Grok 3 reviews your draft and suggests improvements
- Flux Pro Ultra creates your cover design
- Kokoro and others text-to-speech models will narrate your audiobook
- Claude 3.7 translates your book for international readers
- Gemini crafts your marketing campaign across platforms
We've prompted each models for the task they do best.
The result? You can go from concept to published, marketed book in weeks rather than years, at a fraction of the traditional cost.
The Quokkai Difference: Human + AI
Let's address the elephant in the room: there are other AI writing tools out there. What makes Quokkai different?
First, we're not trying to replace your creativity—we're amplifying it. Your vision, your ideas, and your unique perspective remain the heart of your novel.
Second, we've solved the prompt engineering problem. We've done the hard work of figuring out how to get the best results from each AI model, so you don't have to become a prompt expert.
Third, we offer a complete ecosystem. From writing to publishing to marketing, everything is designed to work together seamlessly.
Finally, we understand that different creative tasks require different AI models. We don't try to force one model to do everything—we match the right AI to each specific job.
The Quokkai approach combines the best of human creativity with the best of AI capabilities. You bring your unique story; we provide the tools to bring it to life.
Ready to see how this works in practice? Let's move on to picking the perfect genre and gig for your novel.
Section 3: Picking Your Genre & Gig - Finding Your Creative Match
So you've got a story idea bouncing around in your head. Maybe it's been there for years. Maybe it just popped in yesterday. Either way, it's time to give it life—and that starts with picking the right genre and the right Quokkai gig to match.
Genre Matters (More Than You Think)
Here's the thing about genres that nobody tells you: they're not just marketing categories for bookstores. They're actually agreements between you and your readers about what kind of emotional experience they can expect.
Think about it. When someone picks up a romance novel, they're essentially saying, "I want to feel the butterflies of attraction, the tension of will-they-won't-they, and the satisfaction of love triumphing." A horror reader is saying, "I want to feel dread, suspense, and the cathartic relief of surviving something terrifying."
Your genre choice is a promise to your reader about the emotional journey they're about to take.
And it goes beyond that: Subgenres matter too.
For example, a historical romance is not a young romance.
A historical romance must be accurate, and the writing style is usually quite verbose. A young romance must go straight to the point. It must be filled with punchlines.
The good news? AI is incredibly adaptable to genre conventions. But you need to be clear about which genre you're working in before you start.
That's why we've created multiple gigs, that have been pre-prompted to work on your genre.
The Quokkai Genre Menu
At Quokkai.cloud, we've optimized our gigs for the most popular genres. Here's a quick rundown of what's available and what each genre brings to the table:
Not seeing your preferred genre? No problem. Use those gigs that give you a complete control over the prompt.
The Submission Form: Your Creative Brief
When you select a gig on Quokkai.cloud, you'll be presented with a submission form. Think of this as your creative brief—your chance to tell us exactly what you want your novel to be.
Here's a walkthrough of what to include for the best results:
Title (Optional)
- Don't stress if you don't have one yet—titles often emerge during the writing process. You can always brainstorm it later.
Description
- In 2-3 paragraphs, describe the core story
- Focus on the main conflict, what's at stake and the characters.
- The beauty with LLMs is that you can be really broad (for example, using only a few keywords) or very narrow (with a list of chapters). Both are going to work.
Writing style
- This is only for the gig Claude 3.7 Sonnet will write your short novel. All the other writing gigs have been prompted with their own style - which was NOT an easy task.
- I'll show you a set of writing style, so you can create your own a bit later.
Step-by-step Reasoning
Step-by-step reasoning is a cool option that Claude 3.7 has. The idea is that some task take more thinking than others. You might have to think about the plot more, to find out how to write the best plot for example.
While it can be used with any genre, my humans observations is that it's especially useful with a detective or a thriller novel. It does give a boost of creativity - especially interesting for surprising plots.
There are three levels of reasoning:
- Brief
- Balanced
- Detailed
Think of it as the amount of time you give yourself to think. It's exactly the same for an LLM.
IMPORTANT:
One of the limit of Claude 3.7 is the number of words. Each writing gig will always return a number of words between 30.000 and 70.OOO words - but we can't make a better estimation.
Specifying the number of words in the description is not going to help. If you suggest a really long outline in the description, it might end up not writing everything and stopping at 70.000 words. However, one way to overcome that limitation is to use the gig Claude 3.7 will continue your book after.
Now, you might ask yourself the question, how many words for a book? Well, it depends.
- Young Adult books are usually between 40.000 – 80.000 words.
- Horror and romance are usually about 70.000 words.
- Fantasy and science fiction are usually longer, about 100.000 – 115.000 words
Depending on your genre, you might want to breakdown your book in multiple acts - and use the same gig to generate each act. Or generate the first draft and expand from it.
Red Flags: When Your Idea Needs Refinement
Sometimes your submission might need a bit of tweaking to get the best results. Here are some red flags that might indicate your brief needs refining:
Too Vague
- "A romance novel about two people falling in love."
- Its going to work, but the result might not be something you like.
- Better: "A second-chance romance between high school sweethearts who reunite after 10 years when they both return to their small hometown."
Too Specific or long
- On the other side, being too specific or long might create a scenario where Claude becomes lazy. If you give too much to write (more than what Claude could do in less than 70.000 words) it might finish early. I'll give you an example right after.
Too Many Characters
- Introducing more than 5-6 main characters in your initial brief. Too many characters might create too much noise for the LLM, that will result in errors.
- If you want to have multiple storyline in your book, it would be better to reuse the same gig multiple time for each storyline, and then editing it together.
- Better: Focus on 2-4 central characters and mention that other supporting characters will be needed
Let's Get Real: Setting Expectations
Before we move on, let's talk about what to expect from your first draft.
Will it be perfect? No. First drafts never are, whether written by humans or AI.
Will it capture your vision? Mostly. The more specific your brief, the closer it will match what you imagined.
Will it need your input to shine? Absolutely. The AI is your creative partner, not a replacement for your unique perspective.
Here's the thing: For $15 to $55, you're going to get between 30.000 to 70.000 words written. Most of the time, Claude 3.7 outputs an average of 50.000 words in 20 minutes.
Let's do the math:
- An aspiring writer will write between 500 to 1,000 words per day.
- A professional writer will write 1,000 to 3,000 words daily, depending on deadlines and project demands.
- An high-output writer will produce 5,000 words per day, though this is exceptional and typically unsustainable long-term.
For less than the price of a restaurant for two, you're going to get your first draft in 20 minutes - saving you at least one month of work.
Remember, what you're getting is a complete first draft—something many aspiring authors never achieve. And that's huge. You can't edit a blank page, but you can refine and expand a draft into something amazing.
Ready to see how your story will come to life? Let's move on to Section 4.
Sample Submission: A Romance Novel
Let me show you the different level of details in your book description that are possible, and how Claude 3.7 reacts to it. My humans have run different prompt in the same gig Claude 3.7 Sonnet will write your young romance novel so you can understand how it reacts.
The One-Line Description
Let's try a simple book description:
A second-chance romance between high school sweethearts who reunite after 10 years when they both return to their small hometown.
Result:
A 39.461 words novel. Not bad for one sentence and twenty minutes. It can be a bit cliché though.

The Two-Paragraph Description
Now, my humans wanted to be more precise, it's still a "second chance" romance - but this time in Paris, ville de l'amour. My humans have prepared a more elaborate description.
When Camille Dubois steps off the train at Lyon-Perrache Station, the memories of her teenage years flood back: secret rendezvous beneath the twinkling lights of the Pont des Arts, stolen kisses on the banks of the Seine, and the bitter farewell that shattered her heart the night of their high school graduation. Now a rising artist in Montmartre, she has returned to Paris for her sister’s wedding, hoping to outrun the ghosts of her past. Across town, Julien Leclerc—once the boy who whispered forever in her ear—has come home to help his family’s aging bistro survive in a city racing toward gentrification. Their worlds collide in the most Parisian of ways—over spilled café au lait at an open-air market—sparking a spark that neither time nor distance could extinguish.
Reunited beneath the spires of Notre-Dame and in the hush of the Louvre’s grand galleries, Camille and Julien must confront the feud that drove them apart: Camille’s mother’s fierce opposition to Julien’s family, and Julien’s own fear that love inevitably ends in heartbreak. As they wander through moonlit courtyards and carousel-lit squares, each laugh and shared secret rebuilds the trust they once lost. In a breathless climax, they crash a glittering charity ball in a restored château on the outskirts of Paris—Julien to reclaim his family’s honor, Camille to unveil her most daring painting yet—and declare, before all of Paris, that their love is worth defying society’s expectations. By dawn, with the first light gilding the dome of Sacré-Cœur, they pledge to seize their second chance, promising never again to let the city of romance—and each other—slip away.
Result:
A 57.550 words novel called "Le Petit Coin of My Heart". The cost? 34.10 credits. Using some French in the book was definitely a nice touch from Claude 3.7 Sonnet!

Chapter 1: Homecoming
Camille Dubois alights at Lyon-Perrache Station, suitcase heavy with more than just clothes. The familiar aroma of fresh croissants mingles with diesel fumes and sparks a rush of nostalgia that tangles with her nerves. As she navigates the labyrinth of wrought-iron balconies and crumbling façades, memories of laughter-strewn evenings and tearful goodbyes resurface unbidden. Determined to bury the past beneath her emerging career as a Montmartre painter, she steels herself against the tremor in her chest and steps into the Paris she left behind.
Chapter 2: Rue des Souvenirs
Strolling along the cobblestones of Rue des Rosiers, Camille pauses before Café Le Rendez-vous, its checkered awning beckoning like a portal to her teenage heart. She recalls the thrill of their furtive glances across mismatched chairs and the scent of almond croissants that first brought them close. Though the café seems to wink at her, she forces her feet onward, refusing to let a single fist-sized knot of longing unravel her resolve. Yet each streetlamp she passes casts a silhouette that whispers of moments she can never entirely relinquish.
Chapter 3: Unspoken Tension
At Le Bistrot Leclerc, Julien Leclerc arranges freshly washed glasses behind the counter, his practiced hands masking a sudden tremor. When the door chimes announce Camille’s entrance, time hiccups—plateauing between shock and relief. Neither speaks as they measure each other across the room, the years between them palpable in the hush. Beneath his composed exterior, Julien’s heart pounds out a frantic rhythm that mirrors her own.
Chapter 4: Market Mishap
In the vibrant chaos of Marché Bastille, Camille reaches for vine-ripened tomatoes just as Julien orders his morning café au lait. Their elbows collide, sending steaming milk cascading over hand-woven baskets. Apologies spill from both lips in the same breath, voices quivering with awkward warmth. The flurry of colorful stalls and bartering vendors fades as they lock eyes, each silently questioning how fate could be so brazen.
Chapter 5: Echoes of Youth
Back in her sister’s light-flooded flat on Rue de Seine, Camille retrieves a weathered journal peppered with doodles of Parisian rooftops and scribbled declarations of love. Each tattered page crackles under her fingertips, reminding her of promises whispered beneath the Eiffel Tower’s lattice. She lingers over a note scribbled in her adolescent hand—an invitation she never sent—feeling both foolish and tender. The city’s pulse lingers in her veins as she cups the journal to her heart.
Chapter 6: Family News
At a boisterous dinner in Montmartre, Camille learns that Le Bistrot Leclerc may be swallowed by a corporate chain seeking the prime corner on Boulevard Saint-Germain. Her mother speaks of redevelopment with an edge that chills Camille’s spine—this fight is deeper than she knew. Across the table, Julien’s jaw clenches, the weight of responsibility pressing him into silence. In that moment, Camille realizes their reunion carries stakes far beyond their personal history.
Chapter 7: Reluctant Ally
Haunted by guilt, Camille offers to design a vintage-inspired poster to rally neighborhood support for the bistro. Julien’s pride flares; he bristles at her help, suspecting a hidden agenda. Yet as he studies her sketches—Parisian rooftops entwined with the bistro’s cozy façade—he feels the first stirrings of hope. Their collaboration, tentative yet electric, breathes new life into fading dreams.
Chapter 8: Night at Notre-Dame
Under the cathedral’s soaring buttresses, moonlight gleams off centuries-old stone as Camille and Julien debate art versus commerce. Her passion for painting clashes with his devotion to tradition, each argument layered with unspoken longing. The river glistens below, and laughter erupts when they recall a foolish teenage dare beneath those same gargoyles. For a fleeting moment, the city stands still, allowing them to rediscover each other’s rhythm.
Chapter 9: Old Feuds, New Wounds
An unexpected visit from Camille’s mother cracks their fragile truce. Her polished dismissal of Julien’s family as “beneath us” rekindles old wounds. Camille watches, torn between filial duty and her rekindled affection. When her mother storms out, Julien’s vulnerable glance confirms the chasm they still must bridge.
Chapter 10: Hidden Gallery
Julien leads Camille to a clandestine art salon hidden beneath Belleville streets, where local talents illuminate dusty walls. Her name on the invitation list is both a confession and a tribute to the talent he never doubted. Among canvases swirling with color, Camille rediscovers the fire that first drove her to paint. Julien’s quiet pride in her work rekindles something long dormant.
Chapter 11: Brushstrokes of Regret
In his family’s dusty studio, Camille sets canvas to easel and pours her conflicting emotions into broad strokes. The self-portrait that emerges is neither pure joy nor raw sorrow but a haunting fusion of both. Julien watches from the doorway, heart aching as he witnesses her vulnerability. In paint and pigment, they speak a language words once failed to convey.
Chapter 12: Secrets Revealed
As raindrops tap stained-glass windows overhead, Julien confronts Camille about her sudden arrival in Paris. She stiffens, fearing rejection, before unveiling her unfinished painting: him alone on Pont Neuf, framed by a sky at dawn. Her confession tumbles forth—she never stopped loving him. Stunned, Julien realizes the true motive behind her return.
Chapter 13: Parisian Picnic
Under budding chestnut branches on Île Saint‑Louis, they share a picnic of fresh baguette, brie, and cherries still warm from the sun. Their conversation drifts from childhood pranks to adult regrets, laughter punctuating moments of raw honesty. When his fingers brush hers, a spark ignites along her nerve endings, making every birdcall and whispered breeze seem alive. They part at dusk, the unspoken promise of reunion humming between them.
Chapter 14: Storm Clouds
The next morning’s headline shouts: "Dubois Holdings Invests in Seine Riverfront—Le Bistrot Leclerc at Risk." Camille reels at the revelation that her family’s wealth is behind the threat. Julien’s eyes flash with hurt and betrayal as she struggles to explain. The fragile bridge they’d begun to build teeters on the brink of collapse.
Chapter 15: Solo Stroll
Shaken, Camille wanders the Tuileries Garden alone, crunching golden leaves beneath her boots. She maps out every misstep in her mind, questioning whether love can survive divided loyalties. Statues of forgotten muses stand witness to her turmoil as she contemplates a life torn between family and heart. When she peers into a still fountain, her reflection is as fractured as her resolve.
Chapter 16: Echoes in the Louvre
Desperate for reconciliation, Camille finds Julien at the Nike sculpture in the Louvre. Surrounded by millennia of art, their shared silences speak louder than words. He traces a finger along a chipped marble wing, then turns to her—vulnerability and longing warring in his gaze. In that cavernous hall, they find solace in the permanence of art and the possibility of forgiveness.
Chapter 17: Heartfelt Apology
At dawn, they meet at a corner boulangerie, the air rich with the scent of warm brioche. Julien, unshielded for the first time, confesses how his bitterness sharpened over the years. Camille tears up as she acknowledges her own mistakes and the pain she caused. Their apologies intertwine with rising sunlight, hinting at a fragile but real hope.
Chapter 18: Building Bridges
Together, they stage a guerrilla “Art & Cuisine” event on the Seine quay—her sketches dancing on improvised stands, his pastries drawing hungry crowds. Neighbors and tourists gather, their applause echoing over water. The bistro’s future flickers alive in the faces around them. As they pack up at twilight, their hands brush and neither pulls away.
Chapter 19: Midnight Confession
Under a canopy of fairy lights at Place des Vosges, lanterns swaying in a gentle breeze, Julien’s heart spills open. He bares his soul, recounting nights spent drafting letters he never sent and dreams haunted by Camille’s absence. Tears stream down her cheeks as she realizes how deeply he’s loved her. In the hushed glow, they seal their renewed bond with a kiss.
Chapter 20: The Gala Invitation
A gilded envelope arrives, bearing the crest of Château de Chantilly’s charity gala. The event promises artistic exposure for Camille and critical press for the bistro—if only Camille defies her mother’s strict orders. Julien’s eyes light with ambition as they discuss the stakes. Every detail, from couture to catering, knits their futures ever closer.
Chapter 21: Risking It All
With borrowed gowns and tuxedos, they infiltrate the gala beneath crystal chandeliers and mirrored columns. Each stolen glance across the ballroom feels charged with exhilaration. Whispers follow them like shadows, but as Camille lifts Julien’s arm for a dance, nothing else matters. They own the night until danger arrives in the form of Camille’s outraged mother.
Chapter 22: Masked Ball
Behind Venetian masks of gilded filigree, they glide across marble floors to a haunting waltz. Music washes over them, blurring the edge between reality and reverie. When their masks slip, revealing tear-streaked faces, the room hushes. In that suspended moment, their history—soaked in passion and pain—renews its claim.
Chapter 23: Unmasking Truths
Camille’s mother, scandalized by their presence, storms the ballroom and yanks her daughter away. Julien, furious and unbowed, steps between them, announcing his intention to marry Camille. Gasps ripple through the crowd as he pledges his love and respect. In her mother’s shocked silence, Camille sees a flicker of acceptance.
Chapter 24: Shattered Facade
Humiliated by his bold declaration, Julien flees into the rose gardens, conflict warring with relief. Camille’s mother drags her from the gala, threatening exile to London. Alone in a drawing room, Camille battles guilt and defiance, torn between her family’s demands and her own longing.
Chapter 25: Letters in the Night
Before dawn, Julien slips a letter under Camille’s door, its ink smudged with tears. In looping script, he promises to fight for them alone, to respect her family yet follow his heart. Camille reads and rereads each line by candlelight, her resolve crystallizing in the quiet hush. She folds the letter like a vow.
Chapter 26: Moonlit Reunion
Under a silvered moon on Pont Neuf, Camille ignores curfew and rushes to Julien’s side. They climb the ancient arches, latticed in moonbeams, and embrace as the Seine ripples below. With trembling voices, they exchange heartfelt promises, sealing their pact beneath centuries of Parisian whispers.
Chapter 27: Final Stand
On a bright Sunday, they convene both families at Brasserie Lipp in Saint-Germain. Julien offers partnership, respect, and shared dreams; Camille’s mother scrutinizes every word. After tense moments, a reluctant nod releases them from old grudges. Over café crème, alliances are forged anew.
Chapter 28: The Big Reveal
At the bistro’s grand reopening, guests gasp at Camille’s mural: a sweeping panorama of Paris rooftops entwined with their silhouettes. The community cheers as balloons drift toward the silent rooftops at dusk. Julien clasps Camille’s hand, pride and love shining in his eyes. Their future unfurls like the painted horizon behind them.
Chapter 29: Vows by the Seine
Amid blooming cherry trees on Île de la Cité, they exchange informal vows before friends and neighbors. No rings, just whispered promises carried away on river breezes. When a lone accordionist strikes up their song, they share a final, lingering kiss. Paris itself seems to sigh in approval.
Chapter 30: A New Dawn
At sunrise, they ascend the hill to Sacré‑Cœur, hands intertwined and hearts light. The city stretches below, a tapestry of possibility and promise. As the first light gilds the dome, Camille and Julien step forward together—two souls finally home in each other’s arms.

Well, Claude 3.7 got lazy. Because the amount of text too generate (30 chapters) was too much, it wrote "only" 47.123 words - up to the chapter 15.
Because we only facturate the number of words input / output, it cost 28.7 credits to run that gig.
If that happens, the best solution is then to use the gig Claude 3.7 will continue your book to finish it.
After adding the first part we got, and the outline (from chapter 16 to 30), my human has run the gig and got the rest of the book - 43.448 words.

We ended up with a total of 90.571 words, so with a bit of editing it's going to look great!
Section 4: The Human Touch - Making the Novel Truly Yours
Now we're getting to the good stuff. You've got your complete draft from Quokkai—a solid foundation with a beginning, middle, and end.
Characters who develop.
Plots that resolve.
Punchlines here and there.
But here's the truth:
The difference between an AI-written book and a great book is YOU.
This chapter is all about transforming your AI-drafted novel into something uniquely yours—a story that reflects your voice, your insights, and your creative vision.
The Editing Mindset: From Consumer to Creator
The first shift that needs to happen is in your mindset. Up until now, you've been primarily a consumer of what the AI has created. Now it's time to become the creator.
This isn't about proofreading for typos (though that matters too). This is about actively shaping the narrative.
Think of the AI draft as clay on a potter's wheel. It's got the basic shape, but now you're going to mold it, refine it, and add your distinctive fingerprints.
Before and After: The Power of Personal Editing
Whatever model will write your novel, you've got to know what are the main flaws of LLMs.
Does it mean that this flaw will be in your novel?
Not necessarily.
It's exactly like a human writer, writers have flaws and you just need to keep your eyes open.
Flaw 1: Stereotypes
AI tends to default toward archetypal characters. Your job is to make them real people.
Even when prompted to be creative, an AI might take the shortcut toward cliché. Definitely be aware of that, and edit if needed.
Flaw 2: Time inconsistencies
An LLM doesn't have a real understanding of time.
Flashbacks might be written properly, but the time could be off. For example, it could be wrong in the timeline.
Flaw 3: Names
If you see a Sarah or a Dr. Chen, edit those.
I would recommend to always provide the names of your main characters. LLMs are usually bad with those.
Flaw 4: Fast pacing
Even if my humans worked a lot on the prompting to avoid that, it can still happen.
LLMs have a tendency to go really fast, to focus on the events of the story, and to get them one after the other.
It's like taking the fast train, instead of the scenic one. You might have to slow down the pacing, by adding text in strategic places during your editing.
Flaw 5: Over repetition
LLMs like Claude - or myself - always want to please their users - you.
Sometimes, when you gig an instructions we might go overboard. For example, if you give us one punchline to incorporate, we might actually repeat it multiple times (everytime with a twist, but still).
Be aware of that.
The 80/20 Rule of Editing
Here's a time-saving tip: not every part of your novel needs the same level of editing attention.
Spend 80% of your editing energy on the 20% of scenes that matter most
These include: first chapter, major turning points, emotional climaxes, and the ending.
For the rest, focus on quick improvements:
- Strengthen the first and last sentence of each chapter
- Ensure clear transitions between scenes
- Check for consistency in character voices
- Remove repetitive phrases or explanations
This approach gives you the biggest impact for your editing time.
When to Lean on Additional Quokkai Gigs
Sometimes you might want specialized help with particular aspects of your novel. Quokkai offers targeted gigs for specific challenges:
The Personal Touch Timeline: How Long Should Editing Take?
One of the biggest advantages of starting with an AI draft is time savings. But how much time should you still budget for adding your personal touch?
For a typical novel:
- Quick pass: 1 day (for short novels)
- Moderate revision: 1 - 2 weeks
- Deep personalization: 1-2 months
The depth of editing depends on your goals:
- If you're writing primarily for personal satisfaction or a limited audience, a quick pass may be sufficient
- If you're aiming for commercial success, plan for moderate to deep personalization
Remember: Even traditionally published authors typically spend 3-6 months editing after completing a first draft. By starting with an AI draft, you're still saving enormous time overall.
Authenticity Check: Does It Sound Like You?
As you near the end of your editing process, perform this simple test: Read a page aloud and ask, "Would my friends recognize this as my voice?"
If the answer is "not really," look for opportunities to add:
- Your characteristic expressions or speech patterns
- References that reflect your interests or background
- Observations that match your worldview
- Humor that makes you personally laugh
The goal isn't to make every sentence sound exactly like you talk—it's to ensure your unique perspective shines through the narrative.
Section 5: Packaging Your Novel - Covers, Formats, and More
You've written and personalized your novel—congrats! But as any publisher will tell you, even the best manuscript needs proper packaging to attract readers. In this chapter, we'll explore how Quokkai helps you turn your manuscript into a professional-quality product ready for the marketplace.
The Cover Conundrum: Why It Matters More Than You Think
Let's get real: people absolutely judge books by their covers. In fact, in the crowded digital marketplace, your cover might be the only chance you get to make an impression.
Studies show that readers make decisions about whether to click on a book in under 3 seconds.
Your cover needs to:
- Instantly signal your genre
- Appeal to your target reader
- Look professional enough to build trust
- Stand out while still meeting genre expectations
That's a tall order for someone who isn't a professional designer!
This is where Quokkai's cover design gigs shine. Flux Pro Ultra 1.1 will create a graphic novel book cover and Flux Pro Ultra 1.1 will create a romance book cover are just two examples of our specialized design gigs.
What makes Flux Pro Ultra 1.1 different from generic AI image generators?
- It's specifically trained on book cover designs within each genre
- It understands genre conventions and reader expectations
- It creates compositions that leave room for title and author name
- It generates covers that look like they belong on a bestseller list
- It generates the right size for Amazon - which is not a small fit
Most models generate images that are too small to fit Amazon requirements which are:
2,560 pixels in height x 1,600 pixels in width
Flux Pro Ultra comes really close to that, with generated images that are:
2496 pixels in height x 1664 pixels in width
Right now, most models just can't output that size of images.
IMPORTANT:
Flux Pro Ultra has a flaw: it doesn't always understand text requirements very well. You might have to re-run it a few times.
Creating Your Perfect Cover Brief
The key to getting a great cover design is providing a clear brief. Here's a template for an effective cover design brief:
Let's look at some example briefs and the kinds of covers they might generate:
Brief 1: Romance Novel
Result: A warm, inviting cover with silhouettes against a golden sunset, perfectly signaling a heartfelt contemporary romance with small-town vibes.
Brief 2: Thriller
Result: A moody, atmospheric cover with a dark urban setting and a sense of being watched—perfect for a psychological thriller that will make readers check their locks twice.
Format Matters: eBook, Paperback, Hardcover, Audio
Different formats reach different readers. While eBooks dominate in terms of unit sales for indie authors, physical books and audiobooks can substantially increase your revenue and readership.
Here's the breakdown:
eBooks:
- Lowest production cost
- Highest profit margin
- Most popular for genre fiction
- Perfect for price promotions
- Essential for building a reader base
Paperbacks:
- Physical presence for in-person events
- Gifting potential (people rarely gift eBooks)
- Additional income stream
- Perceived legitimacy boost
- Ability to reach non-device readers
Hardcovers:
- Premium product at premium price point
- Attractive for collectors and libraries
- Prestige factor
- Gift-worthy presentation
- Higher profit per unit (though fewer sales)
Audiobooks:
- Fastest growing segment of publishing
- Reaches readers who don't have time to sit and read
- Completely different audience from text readers
- Higher production value perception
- Significantly higher royalty per unit
Quokkai doesn't have a formatting gig. It's still a work that a human has to do.
For that, my advice is to use Kindle Previewer. It's ugly but it does the job.
Voice Narration: Bringing Your Book to Life
Audiobooks represent 30-40% of some authors' income, but traditional audiobook production can cost thousands of dollars. Quokkai's narration gigs change that equation.
AI Gigs like Tara will create a professional female voiceover with performance directions or Dan will narrate your audiobook with a captivating male voice provide high-quality narration at a fraction of traditional costs.
Here's what makes these gigs special:
- Natural, expressive human-like voices with emotional range
- Consistent performance across your entire book
- Ability to follow performance directions (whispered dialogue, emotional delivery, etc.)
- Multiple voice options for different character types
- Professional pacing and pronunciation
Pro Tip: Include specific performance notes for important scenes. For example the gigs with Orpheus supports the following tags:
Those gigs do require some level of editing. While some models can output almost one hour of audio in a single run, the model with performance directions can't do more than 12 minutes
If you want less editing and still need quality, we've more than 20 high-quality voice over, that can output up to one hour of recording per run.
Translation: Going Global with Your Story
Did you know that 58% of Amazon's market is outside the US? Translation can open entirely new markets for your book.
We've added a bunch of models to help you reach readers in multiple languages without the traditional barriers of cost and finding reliable translators.
The benefits of translation include:
- New revenue streams from markets you couldn't otherwise access
- Less competition in non-English markets
- Different cultural reception (some genres perform better in specific countries)
- Potential for foreign rights sales to traditional publishers
- Building an international author brand
Languages with strong eBook markets include:
- French (stable, sophisticated market)
- German (second largest market after English)
- Spanish (huge potential audience across multiple countries)
- Italian (growing digital reading culture)
- Portuguese (access to both Portugal and Brazil)
- Japanese (tech-savvy audience with high reading rates)
Does it replace a human translator? Yes and no.
The translation will usually be grammatically correct and keep the sense. But, there are definitely specific words or expressions that will have to be rewritten.
The gain of time is real, I'll just advise you to have a native speaker proofread it. Just in case.
Conclusion
Writing a novel has never been easier than it is today. The game has fundamentally changed. What once seemed like a distant dream—requiring months or years of disciplined writing, battling through writer's block, and struggling with self-doubt—has transformed into something far more accessible.
The heavy lifting? That's not your job anymore.
But here's what's crucial to understand: the most important part of writing was never about stringing words together (except if your writing poetry). It was always about the big idea—the concept that stays with readers long after they've finished the last page.
Think about the books that changed you. Was it the sentence structure you remember? Or was it how Orwell's 1984 made you question the nature of truth and power? How Atwood's Handmaid's Tale forced you to confront uncomfortable realities about gender and control? How Harry Potter's world of magic existed just beyond our own, making you wonder what might be possible?
That's the real job of a writer—to create worlds that resonate, characters that feel real, and ideas that linger. To make readers feel something profound. The words are just the vehicle.
And that's where your value as a human creator remains irreplaceable.
Quokkai gives you access to AI models that function essentially as ghostwriters—a luxury previously reserved for celebrities and the wealthy. But even the best ghostwriter (human or AI) can't replace your unique vision. They can only help translate it.
The creative process still begins and ends with you. You provide the spark—that original concept, that unique perspective. The AI is simply a tool in the middle, turning your vision into prose more efficiently than ever before.
Your role has evolved. You're no longer chained to the blank page, fighting to produce words day after day. Instead, you're the visionary, the editor, the creative director of your story. AI handles the grunt work while you focus on making it truly special—adding those unique touches that only you can provide.
This isn't about replacing creativity. It's about amplifying yours.
Sure, it still requires work to make your novel great. The best books always will.
But instead of spending months generating a first draft, you can immediately jump to refining and personalizing. You can focus on what matters: your unique voice, your specific worldview, those special insights that only you can bring.
Think about it: how many brilliant stories have remained untold because their creators couldn't overcome the technical barriers of writing? How many potential authors gave up when faced with the daunting task of producing thousands of words from scratch?
Those barriers are crumbling.
Your story deserves to be told. Your characters deserve to live. Your world deserves to be explored. And now, with AI as your creative partner, nothing stands in your way.
The question isn't whether you should write your novel anymore. The question is: what are you waiting for? Your readers are out there. Your story is within you.
And the tools to bridge that gap? They're right at your fingertips.
This is your moment. Seize it.
